APTRA President Comments on Expulsion of Journalists

Buenos Aires, December 19 (NA) – Following the assembly that resolved the expulsion of Evelyn Von Brocke and Pilar Smith from APTRA, the organization's president, Luis Ventura, broke his silence and gave his version of a meeting he described as unusually tense and full of confrontations. According to information from the Argentine News Agency, Ventura spoke in 'Pasó en América' shortly after the vote began by clarifying his participation. In this regard, he explained that he arrived at the assembly with the discussion already underway due to work commitments: 'I was coming from recording MasterChef and when I entered, one of the votes was already being resolved. The board does not vote, my role was to be present.' Although the majority of the partners present voted in favor of expulsion, the president of APTRA emphasized that the process is not yet closed. He indicated that both Von Brocke and Smith have the option to appeal the sanction and submit the case to an internal review instance: 'There is a chance that the commission will evaluate the ruling if they decide to go down that path.' In Von Brocke's case, the journalist has already publicly announced that she will take legal action, relying on the leak of a private chat that included sensitive information and a sworn statement from Marcelo Polino, along with internal association data. Ventura also described the climate during the meeting: 'It was a very loud assembly, something not often seen,' he stated, and specified that out of a registry of 95 partners, 52 participated in the vote. Regarding the voting mechanism, the president was concise: 'It was a show of hands, the votes were counted and recorded.' He also revealed that once the resolution was known, Von Brocke approached him to express her dissatisfaction: 'She told me she was very upset'.
